The legendary captain of the German national team and Bayern Munich, Philipp Lahm, believes that the national team's match against Ukraine on June 12 is an ideal opportunity to demonstrate solidarity with Ukrainians. The director of the Euro 2024 tournament noted that he has always followed the situation in our country, which is now fighting not only for its independence but also for the future of the whole of Europe.

Lam wrote about this in his column for the authoritative British publication The Guardian. The Champions League and World Cup winner stressed that football can unite people, and the Germany-Ukraine game should send a clear message to Russian aggressors about the unity of Europe.

"Football is a good way to send a message of peace and international understanding. The best way to do this is through international matches, which are becoming increasingly important in these changing times. I am the director of a tournament where we want to celebrate and strengthen European values. This determines my view of Ukraine. What is happening there threatens not only them, but also us. That's why an international match against Ukraine is a great idea. Today, Ukraine is fighting for the freedom of Europe," the former footballer said.

We shall remind you that the Germany-Ukraine friendly match will take place in Bremen. OBOZREVATEL will hold an online broadcast of the game. The game kicks off at 19:00 Kiev time.

As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, Ukraine's new head coach Serhiy Rebrov excluded Dynamo Kyiv's Vitaliy Buyalsky from the team for the match against Germany.
