During the battle with the Russian occupiers in the Bakhmut sector, the coach of the Kherson City Basketball Federation, Yuriy Lyashko, was killed. He was one of the founders of the organisation.

This was reported by the press service of the Basketball Federation of Ukraine. They noted that the Hero was involved not only in organising the work of the local federation, but also in training young athletes.

 
 

 

"In 2002, Yuriy Oleksandrovych graduated from Kherson State University with a diploma with honours. After graduation, he started working as a physical education teacher at the Kherson Physical and Technical Lyceum in 2002-2008. In 2004, he was the founder of the Kherson City Basketball Federation, which he supported until the start of the war. He was a great teacher and a talented coach, he trained many basketball players, winners of city and regional competitions," the FBU said in a statement.

 
 

The organisation added that in 2015, Lyashko supported ATO soldiers, helped open a coffee shop and worked there until 24 February 2022, organising interesting patriotic events for young people.
