Asked for help: Lopez named unexpected score of Lomachenko vs. Haney fight

Lopez Jr. criticized Haney's win

Former undisputed lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez Jr. (18-1, 13 KOs) called Vasyl Lomachenko (17-3, 11 KOs) the winner of the fight against Devin Haney (30-0, 15 KOs). The American boxer expressed his belief that the Ukrainian simply cleanly outplayed his opponent and had to take all the belts of the division.

Lopez said it in his interview on YouTube channel Fight Hub TV. According to him, the Ukrainian boxer completely controlled the course of the fight, breaking down Haney's defense with his combinations and forcing his opponent to constantly ask for help from his corner. However, Teofimo gave Lomachenko nine out of 12 rounds, which equaled a 117-111 scoreline, although most experts are leaning toward 115-113.

"I got 9-3 in the rounds in favor of Lomachenko. Haney underworked a lot. I think Lomachenko controlled the fight from about the second round. He was throwing more combinations. Loma did more in the ring than Haney did. He was pushing. Do the judges want to say that Haney won because he threw a little more punches to the body? Lomachenko outplayed his opponent, outclassed him. But Devin was always looking back at his father, saying, 'Daddy, help me, I don't know what to do, he counted me out...' - Lopez Jr.

Recall that Loma had his 20th fight in the professional ring. The light-heavyweight title fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena against Haynie went all 12 rounds and ended by unanimous decision 116-112, 115-113, 115-113 in favor of American. Unified heavyweight champion Alexander Usik (20-0, 13 KOs) called it a robbery of the Ukrainian.

It should be noted that the judges' notes, which were published after the fight, caused heated debates among experts and fans.

Lomachenko's team has announced that they are filing a protest of the fight result. In addition, the fight's punching stats confirm that the Ukrainian won at least five rounds.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL American catman and trainer Russ Anber said that three times he reviewed the fight of Vasyl Lomachenko and Devin Haney and every time he gave the victory to the Ukrainian. Our boxer himself demanded a rematch from Devin Haney and also noted that it would never happen. He called his score of the fight on May 20, calling the American a coward.
