Kostyuk defeated Jabeur

Famous Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk (WTA No. 44) defeated world No. 7 Ons Jabeur (Tunisia) in two sets. The second-round match at the WTA 1000 tournament in the Chinese capital ended with a set score of 7:6 (7:5), 6:1.

Before the match, bookmakers were taking bets on the 21-year-old from Kyiv with odds of 3.45, while the success of her opponent was estimated at 1.32.

After a hard-fought first set that ended in a tiebreak, our compatriot simply crushed her opponent. The second game was played with a total advantage of Marta, who won a well-deserved victory.

In her post-match interview with the official WTA website, Kostyuk noted that much of the credit for this success goes to her new coach, Sandra Zaniewska. The Ukrainian has been working with the Polish coach since August.

"I'm a person who talks a lot, and it was very difficult for me because when you work with a male coach, most of them don't talk. They cannot understand what you feel and adapt to you," the Ukrainian tennis player admitted.

In the round of 16, Kostyuk will play against "neutral athlete" Liudmila Samsonova (WTA No. 22).

On August 31, it became known that Kostyuk would not play for the national team this year and probably next year. The 21-year-old from Kyiv explained this by "the situation with the FTU," referring to the players' demand to remove Yevhen Zukin from the position of vice president of the federation for allegedly harassing and bullying athletes.
