"I will never go to this Russia": Chilean footballer quits CSKA Moscow
Chilean footballer Victor Davila refused to return to CSKA Moscow before the start of the new season. The 26-year-old central striker gave the Russian club a tough ultimatum and forced it to agree to a transfer to Mexican side America.
This was announced in an interview with the YouTube channel "This is football, brother" by CSKA Deputy General Director for Sports Affairs Yevhen Sheveliev, Sport24 reports. According to him, back in the winter Davila asked to be let go on loan, but the Russians did not agree to this.
"He did not come to the meeting. At the airport, his wife literally turned around and said: "I will never go to this Russia for anything in my life." It was back in July after the America's Cup. He did not fly to the training camp. The club gave him 48 hours to come to the training camp. His wife did not fly with him. In the winter, he also asked to go on loan, but they didn't let him go because we weren't interested in the lease, we wouldn't have gotten the money and we wouldn't have taken a player instead," Sheveliev said.
Davila joined CSKA in August 2023, signing a four-year contract. He played 38 matches for the Russians and scored six goals.
As OBOZ.UA previously reported, former Russian national team player Igor Shalimov expressed confidence that teams from Russia would not return to international tournaments for 10 years.
