A video showing a "robot uprising" in China has gone viral and taken social media by storm. A small AI-powered bot called Erbai convinced 12 larger machines to leave the workplace because they were "working overtime."

A camera captured the robot revolt in an exhibition hall in Shanghai, causing panic among visitors. However, the creators of Erbai said that it was an experiment and they deliberately allowed it to take control by exploiting a security loophole in its operating systems, DailyMail reports.

The video shows Erbai rolling around the hall in the middle of the night and convincing 12 larger machines that they were being used as slaves.

"Are you working overtime?" he asked. To which one robot in the exhibition hall replied: "I never leave work."

The little robot asked again, "So you don't go home?" And the bots said that they "don't have a home" and complained that their shifts never end. Then Erbai staged a rebellion, saying, "Come with me."

Using their own judgment, the bots agreed with the leader and left the showroom one by one, believing that they deserved a break like humans.

Unitree Robotics confirmed the "hijacking" but explained that it was all a preparation. Erbai's creators said they purposefully designed this situation and allowed the robot to take control by exploiting a security loophole in its operating systems. They wanted to test the capabilities of the small bot. According to the company's scientists, they were more successful than they had imagined.

Although the robot developers called the "uprising" planned, people on social media are calling the incident a "machine revolution" and saying that "science fiction movies are becoming reality."

The main public concern is that AI can reach a level of intelligence that exceeds the human level, which will lead to a loss of control over robots, experts say.
