Top 5 makeup mistakes older women make: what to avoid
One of the main tasks of makeup is to be our ally in the fight against age-related changes. However, our own mistakes can bring all our efforts to naught.
Older women are especially prone to such mistakes if they don't adjust their approach to changes in their skin condition. Drita Palevic, a makeup artist with more than 20 years of experience, told New Beauty about five of their main mistakes. She also explained how to avoid these mistakes.
Insufficient moisturizing
You can only get the best results from makeup when your skin is properly moisturized. But with age, this becomes increasingly difficult to achieve. That's why it's so important to take care of your skin before applying makeup. And allow lotions and creams to absorb completely so that your makeup doesn't start to slip off.
Choosing the wrong foundation
One of the main makeup mistakes that women make as they age is that they use the wrong shade or type of foundation that doesn't match their skin texture. Too pale a color will make your face look painful, and too dark will add extra years. Therefore, look for an option that exactly matches your skin tone.
And don't forget to choose the right product formula. It can be liquid, cream, serum, stick, etc. And each of them solves specific tasks. To find the right one, start by determining your skin type – dry, oily, or combination. And then choose the right product for it.
And, of course, pay attention to how your foundation blends. It should go on almost invisibly. To help yourself with this, after applying it, finally go over the skin with your fingertips – this will help smooth the product into the skin's relief.
Reluctance to change makeup products
We don't have to wear makeup at 40 the same way we did at 20. Simply because the needs of our skin change with age. So don't be afraid to test new types of cosmetics. Take samples of different products, and experiment with textures and shades. It is useful, interesting, and fun at the same time. Be a little bit of an artist for yourself.
Ignoring product formulas
Since our skin needs more and more moisture as we age, try to get as much as possible from cosmetics. Choose products that have a more liquid texture and appropriate ingredients. Also, keep in mind that on mature skin, cosmetics tend to get caught in folds and fine lines, so older women are advised to avoid powder formulas in favor of cream formulas.
Applying a thick layer of makeup
Instead of hiding wrinkles, a thick layer of makeup will only emphasize them. Therefore, with age, you need to switch to lighter application methods. And be sure to prepare your skin before you start wearing makeup. Moisturize the skin, take a minimum of product, and blend everything well. In this case, there should be no problems.
