The fastest in history? In Brazil, a footballer earned a sending off in the 3rd second of the match. Video.
Cruzeiro striker Rafa Silva earned one of the fastest suspensions in football history. The 32-year-old Brazilian saw a red card in front of him in the 3rd second of the match. The incident occurred in the game of the 31st round of the Brazilian Serie A against Atlético Paranaense.
After an Atlético Paranaense player cleared the ball from the center of the field and passed it to his teammate, Silva attacked him. Rafa, running past, elbowed Kaike Rocha in the face with all his might.
At first the referee did not see the violation, but after a tip from an assistant he sent the offender off the field.
Playing with a man advantage, Atletico easily won a 3-0 victory.
The day after the match, Rafa posted a message on his Instagram to apologize to all Cruzeiro fans and teammates for what happened.
"I know that I made a mistake and endangered the team as a result. I was very happy to be able to return to the field and was eager to help, especially after three months of hard and difficult recovery. However, I ended up overdoing it. I apologize once again. I will work to regain everyone's trust," the player said.
