The series The Terror impresses with its realism

The first season of the gloomy 2018 TV series The Terror suddenly appeared on Netflix and caused a wave of excitement on the network. When the multi-episode story about the tragedy of 1845-1846 premiered, it found its audience but did not bring the thriller to the top despite good reviews from critics.

This time, everything may change, according to foreign media. People are already talking about the horror with the star of the famous Chornobyl series with enthusiasm. OBOZ.UA will tell you why the audience liked it.

What The Terror is about?

This story is mostly scary because of its realism. The directors and actors managed to recreate the tragic events of almost 180 years ago with incredible accuracy only because the tragedy described really happened.

In 1945, Captain John Franklin and his right-hand man Francis Crozier led two ships- the Terror and the Erebus - to explore the Arctic with 134 other people. A few months later, the ships became trapped in the ice surrounding King William Island.

It is known that the crew and passengers spent more than a year on board, hoping for rescue, but when their supplies began to run low and scurvy claimed the lives of many, the explorers went ashore and disappeared. Most likely, they died of cold and hunger.

The series is based on this story and the fantastic conjecture of Dan Simmons' 2007 novel of the same name. He added a bit of mysticism to the story to maximize the horror effect.

Why The Terror became popular

Netflix acquired the rights to the series, which is one of the reasons. The media talked about the project with particular enthusiasm, mentioning its 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and its breathtaking realism.

The series' cast also contributed to the new round of popularity. Captain Rosier was played by Jared Harris, who was not so popular in 2018. He then portrayed Valery Legasov in the TV series Chernobyl, which became a hit in 2019.
