They say that there is no better screenwriter than life itself. And this is proved by the success of films inspired by real events as many of them are among the top best of all time.

The Heat edition has collected a dozen such films. They are considered benchmarks in their genre, and they also teach the audience a lot.

Schindler's List

The film directed by Steven Spielberg celebrates the feat of German entrepreneur Oskar Schindler. During the Second World War, he saved Jews from the Holocaust. He risked everything and saved hundreds of lives. The movie about him turned out to be extremely emotional and deep. And his story teaches humanity even in the most terrible circumstances.

The Social Network

Facebook, created by Mark Zuckerberg, has changed the entire society without exaggeration. However, behind the development of the platform was a story of complicated relationships between everyone involved. David Fincher has masterfully adapted this story of young people who want to change the world but still fall into the trap of temptations of wealth and power.

Apollo 13

The flight to the moon was an extremely responsible mission for American astronauts. And director Ron Howard masterfully conveyed this tension. He showed what responsibility the heroes had and how they coped with it. The visualization of the space flight deserved special praise at the time.

The Imitation Game

During the Second World War, the brilliant English mathematician Alan Turing made a huge contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany by cracking the code of the Enigma encryption machine. It allowed the Nazis to plan their operations without hindrance. However, after the war, instead of becoming a national hero, Turing became an outcast. The scientist's personal drama was brilliantly directed by Morten Tyldum and portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch.

A Beautiful Mind

Another story of a scientist who, despite his genius, lived a life full of drama. The mathematician John Nash won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1994, but he struggled with schizophrenia, which sometimes made his life hell. The film was directed by Ron Howard and starred Russell Crowe.

Spotlight

The problem of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church has been silenced for decades, if not centuries, until the journalists of the Boston Globe newspaper took up the issue. Tom McCarthy showed how tense and emotionally difficult this landmark investigation was for them. He also loudly reminded the world of the importance of the work of journalists.

Hotel Rwanda

The 1994 Rwandan genocide cost the lives of nearly a million Tutsi. And the death toll could have been even higher if not for Paul Rusesabagin, an ordinary hotel manager in the city of Kigali. Faced with a difficult moral choice, he put himself in danger to save hundreds of lives. Director Terry George and actor Don Cheadle brilliantly explore the nature of an ordinary man's heroism.

Moneyball

The world of sports seems to rely on the capabilities of the human body. However, Billy Beane, manager of the Oakland A's baseball team, proved that an analytical mind can also produce remarkable results. His fascinating story was adapted into a movie by Bennett Miller, with Brad Pitt in the lead role.

The King's Speech

You can even be a real king and rule an entire empire, but this will not protect you from psychological problems due to certain peculiarities. However, everyone can overcome themselves. This is exactly what Tom Hooper's work about King George VI of England and his incredible journey to overcome stuttering tells us. The insecure monarch who changes himself was embodied by the brilliant Colin Firth.

The Big Short

What could be more boring than the global financial crisis? Director Adam McKay disagreed, and decided to tell the story of how the US real estate bubble burst in a witty way, bringing the entire world to the brink of economic collapse in 2007-2008. The dynamic story fascinatingly explains complex economic terms and shows how the wrong decisions of ordinary people trigger the mechanism of global catastrophe.
