A resident of the United Kingdom, Jill Stewart, found a box of porcelain in the attic of her house. The woman decided to put the "junk" up for auction and unexpectedly earned 162 thousand pounds sterling (more than $200 thousand, or UAH 8.5 million).

This is reported by MSN. It is noted that Jill Stewart found a box labeled "broken porcelain" when she went to the attic for Christmas decorations. The British woman decided that it was her grandfather's military dishes, who served in China in the 1900s.

Some pieces were found intact

However, the porcelain turned out to be much more expensive than the dishes of centuries ago – as auctioneer James Laverack said, the history of the found porcelain dates back to about the 18th century. Also, many of the items were not broken or damaged.

Chinese tableware is in demand at auctions

As a result, rare porcelain was sold at John Taylors Auction Rooms in late June. 13 lots were sold for a total of £162 thousand, with the most valuable items being Chinese tea bowls, which brought £59 thousand (over $75 thousand, 3 million UAH).

The most expensive bowls

The demand for old porcelain is high now, Laverac notes. The fact is that the Chinese are actively buying back items that were originally made for the Chinese market and then ended up in the West.
