We usually think of Greece as a country for a great summer vacation. However, experienced travelers say that there are plenty of things to do here in winter, including for those who like winter sports.

According to the Express, those who want to go skiing should pay attention to the town of Metsovo. It is located on the picturesque slopes of the Pind mountain range, and you can ski here from December to March.

The town pleases with beautiful wooden houses with characteristic red roofs and picturesque fog that descends on them in winter mornings. The local mountain streams have crystal clear water. And instead of apple strudel, they serve feta pies.

Although Metsovo comes alive in winter, its location along the Ionian Sea coast and rich cultural heritage make it an ideal vacation destination all year round. Just a twenty-minute drive away is the Aoos River Lake, a stunning place for hiking. In the local forests you can see many wild animals. And to admire the magnificent views of the Pind Mountains, head to Averoff Gardens.

The local cuisine offers all the delights of the Greek culinary tradition - fresh vegetables, meat, and spicy herbs. And in addition to them, a local delicacy is always served - smoked Mezovone cheese. And don't forget to try the Cabernet Sauvignon made from grapes grown nearby.

The closest airport to Metzovo is just an hour away, in the city of Ioannina. However, you can also get here from Thessaloniki. Then you will have a five-hour journey through the picturesque mainland Greece.
