What Vinnytsia was like about 100 years ago: photos for comparison
Vinnytsia is a city with a long history. The first mention of the settlement dates back to 1363 when a wooden fortress was built on Zamkova Hora by order of Lithuanian Prince Fedir Koriatovych. It was from this moment that the city began to emerge as an important trade and military center.
At different times in its history, Vinnytsia became the capital of Ukraine three times. Vinnytsia is famous for its parks and squares, which makes it one of the greenest cities. The network showed what the city was like a century ago.
At first, Vinnytsia was the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and received the Magdeburg Law, which promoted the development of crafts and trade. After the Union of Lublin, the city came under the rule of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. During the Cossack period, Vinnytsia became the center of the eponymous regiment and played an important role in the Cossack wars.
In the twentieth century, Vinnytsia experienced rapid development and became a regional center. In the 1920s, industrialization began, and during the Second World War, Vinnytsia suffered significant damage.

An interesting photo shows a house on Soborna Street, which was destroyed in connection with the construction of the Central Post Office in 1965. In the nineteenth century, it was home to the Duvreux candy store.
Nataliia Kushka's book "Franz Liszt in Vinnytsia" states that "the legendary Hungarian pianist and composer once performed in this very building. The confectionery was famous for its cakes and fine wines throughout Podillia... We are talking about the 1840s and 1850s."

After the Second World War, Vinnytsia was reborn and became one of the industrial centers of Ukraine. Today it is a modern city with a well-developed infrastructure.
