The young men, taken from Judea, find themselves in a foreign country dominated by paganism. Despite temptations and pressure from the authorities, they remain faithful to their faith.
The most famous episode related to Daniel and his friends (Shadrach (Ananias), Meshach (Meshach), and Abednego (Azariah)) is the story of their being thrown into a hot furnace. King Nebuchadnezzar ordered a golden statue to be built and ordered everyone to worship it. Daniel and his friends refused to obey this order and were sentenced to a terrible death. However, by a miracle of God, they remained unharmed in the hot furnace.
