Ukrainian forward takes a crazy step to join Italian club

Dovbyk wants to play at Roma

Ukraine forward Artem Dovbyk has demonstrated an incredible desire to join the Italian side Roma. For the sake of playing in Serie A, our compatriot decided to give up the signing bonus he was due upon transfer from Spanish side Girona.

This was reported by Corriere Dello Sport. According to the publication, Dovbyk signed an agreement with Girona stating that in case of resale, he would be paid one and a half million euros. However, the Ukrainian forward refused this amount, which allowed the Spaniards to be more cooperative in negotiations with Roma.

In addition, thanks to Dovbyk's decision, the Italians saved one and a half million and will pay Girona 38.5 million as compensation for the forward. The Ukrainian footballer arrived in the Italian capital the day before and passed the first part of the medical examination, which did not reveal any problems.

The deal should be closed in the near future. It is worth noting that unlike Girona and Atletico Madrid, which also wanted our compatriot, Roma will not play in the Champions League. The Italians have made it to the Europa League, where they will be the highest-ranked team.

Dovbyk was a real sensation in the last Spanish league. He joined Girona in August 2023 and immediately won a place in the first team. For the Catalans, the Ukrainian played 39 matches in all competitions, scoring 24 goals and giving 10 assists.
