Ukraine may introduce trade barriers for Polish goods, a source in the Ukrainian government told Forbes. "I would like us to avoid this, but we are now at the lowest point, and if this continues, it will have to be done," the official said on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.
The country's leadership is indeed discussing such a possibility, Mykola Solskyi, Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, confirmed to Forbes. Polish farmers are preparing for a complete ban on Ukrainian transportation
Ukrainian carriers have decided to protest after Polish farmers announced that they will block the border between Ukraine and Poland starting February 20. They want to block not only all border crossings between the two countries but also access roads to railway transshipment stations and seaports.
Polish carriers may resume their strike as early as March 1. Ukraine is already actively negotiating to prevent this from happening.
Polish farmers have already expanded the blockade to the Korczowa-Krakovets checkpoint. In total, six checkpoints are blocked, including Korczowa-Krakovets, Zosin-Ustiług, Uhryniv-Dołhobyczow, Medyka-Shehyni, Yahodyn-Dorohusk and Hrebenne-Rava-Ruska.
