The filming of the movie "Peaky Blinders" has started: Netflix reveals first shot of Tommy Shelby

The work on the sequel to the hit series Peaky Blinders has entered an active stage. Netflix, in collaboration with BBC Film, has started shooting a feature film that will tell the further story of Tom Shelby.

Netflix announced this on social media. And published the first photos from the set. In one of them, actor Cillian Murphy is depicted as his character, the gangster Shelby, and in another, he poses with the film's screenwriter and producer, as well as the creator of the original show, Steven Knight.

"I'm excited that the cameras are rolling for a new chapter in the story of 'Peaky Blinders' set during World War II. The country is at war, and of course, so are our 'Peaky Blinders'," Knight told the Netflix team.

It is currently known that in addition to Murphy, the film's cast will include several other star actors. Rebecca Ferguson (Dune, Mission: Impossible), Barry Keoghan (Saltburn, The Eternals) and Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight) have already been confirmed to star in the film.

The plot of the feature-length sequel to Peaky Blinders takes place in Birmingham between 1919 and 1934. The story centers on the family of Tom Shelby, who in the series made their way from a street gang to the very top of society.

The film is directed by Tom Harper, who worked on the first season of "Peaky Blinders" in 2013. "...More than 10 years ago, we didn't know what the show would become, but we knew there was something explosive in the alchemy of the cast and the script. 'Peaky Blinders' has always been a story about family - and so it's incredibly exciting to reunite with Steve and Killian to bring the movie to audiences around the world on Netflix," Harper shared. He added that the entire team is grateful to the show's fans who have brought them to this point.

Details of the plot are currently being kept secret. But the creators promise that the sequel will not disappoint the fans of the series. "It will be an explosive chapter in the story. There are no restrictions. A full-fledged war of the Peaky Blinders," Knight promised. The release date of the movie is currently unknown.

The original series "Peaky Blinders" aired on the channels of the British BBC Corporation from 2013 to 2022 and survived six seasons. Initially, the plot was based on the story of a real gang that operated in Birmingham in the 1920s. In 2018, the show won the BAFTA award for Best Drama Series and has won 24 different awards in total. "Breaking Bad" is ranked 86th in the list of the best TV series of all time according to the IMDb portal.
