Ukraine's head coach Serhii Rebrov strongly disagreed with the statement that the team played to keep the winning score in the match against Slovakia in the second round of the 2024 European Championship. The Blue and Yellows coach noted that it was important for his team to get three points rather than think about goal difference.

Rebrov said this at a press conference before the match against Belgium, according to the website of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF). The 50-year-old specialist added that psychologically, the players needed to close the defeat against Romania in the opening game of the championship.

"We now have three points, which was very important in the game against the Slovaks. I don't know why people say that we made all the substitutions on defense. We did not say that we should only defend. But the players mentally understood that it was very important to keep this result after a 0-3 defeat. No one said that it was very important for us to go on the defensive, but the opponent tried to get back at us," Rebrov said.
