How to clean cast iron grates on the stove without damaging the coating: life hack
The kitchen is a special place in every home where people not only cook but also gather with their families. That is why it is important to keep this room clean and tidy.
However, some things in the kitchen can be incredibly difficult to clean, such as the cast iron grates on the stove. Luckily, Better Homes & Gardens has shared a method to help you get rid of dirt quickly and without damaging their finish.
When cooking, it's almost impossible to avoid oil splashes and occasional food overflow. As a result, the cast iron grates of the stove are covered with dirt, which is quite difficult to get rid of.
However, there is one effective cleaning method that does not require any special tools and prevents damage to the cast iron.
How often to clean cast iron grates
You should clean the cast iron grids on your stove weekly if you cook frequently, and monthly if you cook infrequently. In addition, if food or oil gets on the grates while you are using the stove, wash them immediately after they cool down. This will keep the dirt from drying out and make it much easier to get rid of.
Also, regularly apply a thin layer of cooking oil to clean grates and bake them in the oven for 30-60 minutes at about 200 degrees.
Instructions for cleaning cast iron grids
Before cleaning the grids, wait until they are cool. Then fill the sink with water and add detergent. Put the grids in and leave them in for no more than 10 minutes.
If your sink is too small, you can use any plastic basin or container.
Use a soft-bristled brush or a soft sponge to remove any dirt from the grids. Avoid using abrasive cleaners and metal sponges, as they can damage the cast iron.
Finally, rinse the grids under hot water and dry them with a towel. Do not leave them to dry on their own, as this can cause rust to form.
If rust does appear on your cast iron grates, use steel wool and warm soapy water to get rid of it.
