How many public holidays in Ukraine: which days should be days off
The war has made adjustments to the lives of Ukrainians. On July 23, the Verkhovna Rada supported the extension of martial law and general mobilization until November 9, 2024. This directly affects the availability of weekends and holidays.
Article 73 of the Labor Code establishes a list of public holidays. Read the OBOZ.UA article to find out how many public holidays there are in Ukraine and which days should be days off.
Ukrainians will have 11 official public holidays. According to the provisions of the Labor Code, all public holidays in Ukraine are days off. However, during martial law, this article is suspended, so only those days that fall on Saturday or Sunday will be days off.
Weekends and holidays in 2024:
- January 1 - New Year's Day;
- March 8 - International Women's Day;
- May 1 - Labor Day;
- May 8 - Day of Remembrance and Victory over Nazism in the Second World War of 1939-1945;
- June 28 - Constitution Day of Ukraine;
- July 15 - Day of Ukrainian Statehood;
- August 24 - Independence Day of Ukraine;
- October 1 - Day of Defenders of Ukraine;
- December 25 - Christmas Day.
Work is also closed on religious holidays:
- one day (Sunday) - Easter;
- one day (Sunday) - Trinity Day
- December 25 is Christmas.
For example, before the war, Ukrainians used to have several days off on Easter and Trinity. While martial law is in effect, there are no additional days off.
However, employers may, at their discretion, set an additional day off for their employees. He can do this within his authority and at his own expense – this does not contradict Article 9-1 of the Labor Code.
