The ginger root should be put in water overnight. In the morning, it should be treated with potassium permanganate to avoid infections. To stimulate growth, you should dip the root in warm water for several hours before planting.
When to plant ginger

- the ginger root has growth buds;
- the skin is smooth and firm on the surface;
- ginger does not look overdried;
- there is no mucus in the places of cuts;
- there is no mold on the surface;
- there is no unpleasant rotting odor.
In this case, the ginger is ready for planting.
What soil to choose
Ginger needs well-drained soil that contains leaf humus and sand. It is a heat-loving plant that does not tolerate drafts and quickly rots when water stagnates. The period of growth and maturation of ginger lasts about 8-9 months.
Ginger root can be planted both in open ground and in a home container. In the fall, ginger should be dug up from the garden, transplanted into a pot, and brought into the house.
How to plant ginger
- If the ginger root is more than 10 cm long, divide it into parts – each of them must have buds.
- Soak the ginger in warm water before planting. You can sprinkle the slices with crushed charcoal or ash to avoid decay.
- The roots of the plant grow horizontally, so it is better to choose shallow pots 15-25 cm deep. Pour a little soil, add a layer of sand, expanded clay, or other drainage material, place the ginger root on top, and cover it with earth.
- The optimal depth is 5-7 cm. After planting, ginger should be well watered. Until the sprouts appear, you should water once every two days. After the sprouts appear, watering should be reduced and the container should be placed in a warm, sunny place.
How to care for the plant
Once a week, gently loosen the top layer of soil to a depth of 1 cm for better air circulation.
For fertilizing, you should choose organic fertilizers and apply them as needed, no more than once every 2 weeks.
