The electricity tariff in Ukraine may be raised as early as June. The price will increase from UAH 2.64 to UAH 3.5 per 1 kWh.

This is stated in the material of OBOZ.UA. The final decision on the cost of electricity has not yet been made. Among the possible options is to increase the tariff for everyone to UAH 3.5. The possibility of returning the differentiated tariff is also being considered.

It assumes that those who use more electricity will pay more. However, to receive funds for the restoration of the power system, prices must be raised for everyone.

The Ministry of Energy addressed Ukrainians: what everyone should do

"To avoid emergency power outages, the Ministry of Energy appeals to consumers to consume electricity economically and responsibly. It is important to reduce the use of energy-intensive appliances during peak hours (especially from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m.)," the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

If every Ukrainian reduces electricity consumption by at least 30%, it will make it possible to avoid (or significantly reduce) the period of blackouts. It is important to

  • refuse to use powerful electrical appliances (kitchen appliances, washing machines, heaters, air conditioners, etc.) during peak consumption periods;
  • turn on the lights only in the rooms where you are staying (replace lamps with energy-saving ones);
  • if possible, reduce all electricity consumption during this period as much as possible.

Traditionally, power engineers also advise buying only energy-efficient appliances (energy efficiency class "A" and above), replacing all lamps with energy-efficient ones, and installing motion sensors. The main thing that everyone should remember is that the choice is between consuming sparingly or getting used to constant blackouts.

In addition, billions of dollars in investments are needed to find a long-term solution, restore power plants, reform the energy generation system, etc. And it will not be possible to do it with the help of partners alone. The tariff for households will gradually increase at least to the level of production costs. The first stage of the tariff increase may take place as early as June 1. Therefore, if you learn to use electricity sparingly, it will help not only to support the power system but also to reduce the amount of money in your bills.
