Eating longer than King Charles II and wearing fur clothes: 7 things Kate Middleton is not allowed to do

Monarchs are forbidden to interact with the public in a too familiar manner

When Catherine, Princess of Wales, became a member of the British Royal Family (hereinafter referred to as the BRF), it gave her many privileges. But at the same time, she has to follow a strict protocol, where some rules have a logical explanation (the Duchess is forbidden to leave autographs for fans because there are fears that someone may forge documents on her behalf), and some have long been considered relics of the times (the princess cannot play board games, such as Monopoly).

What other things can't Kate Middleton do? Find out in the article of OBOZ.UA.

1. She cannot make a profit from her work

The Princess of Wales is fond of photography: she takes family portraits and participates in community projects dedicated to various social issues. Her hobby is worth making money from, but Kate can't sell it because she's not allowed to monetize any of her activities. The maximum she can afford is to have her photos published by the royal family at various exhibitions.

2. The princess is not allowed to express her political views

According to royal protocol, members of the royal family are not allowed to publicly demonstrate their political views. They are obliged to remain neutral. The Duchess does not seem to like this rule. She openly shows that the UK and the British people support Ukraine. For example, Kate Middleton performed a small excerpt from Stefania by the Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra on the piano at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. On October 4, 2023, the princess visited the British community center "All Together" which helps Ukrainian refugees. That day, she made a blue and yellow "brooch" with her own hands, which she later wore on her chest.

In addition, Prince William's wife is not eligible to vote. She is forbidden to go to the polls and support any of the presidential candidates. She does not violate this rule.

3. She is not allowed to have a social media account

The royal rules state that titled persons, including Kate Middleton, can have their own social media accounts. However, they are not allowed to decide what to publish on their own. This is done by the PR staff of Buckingham Palace.

4. Not all dishes can be eaten

The princess has almost everything on her menu. However, she and other members of the BRF are not allowed to eat shellfish: there is a high risk of poisoning from products such as oysters and mussels. Middleton also does not eat foie gras as the entire royal family believes that it is cruel to animals as goose or duck liver is artificially enlarged by fattening 2-3 times a day for 2 weeks (for ducks) and 3 weeks (for geese). A tube is inserted into the birds' throats to pump a large amount of food into their bodies (much more than they would voluntarily consume).

According to the protocol, the princess must stop eating during a state banquet or private celebration as soon as King Charles III finishes his meal

5. Strangers are not allowed to touch the Princess

No one is allowed to touch the Princess of Wales or any other member of the BRF. The future queen, of course, tries to adhere to this rule, but it does not always work out. For example, Catherine often shakes hands with strangers, and during an unexpected meeting with her former history teacher Jim Amber in February 2023, she went up and hugged him.

We can't leave out a funny case. Not so long ago, a video of a teenager approaching the Duchess from behind, grabbing her waist and tickling her appeared online. She was frightened for a moment, but quickly regained control of her emotions: she laughed cheerfully and shook the teenager's hand. I wonder what her reaction would have been if she had been a queen consort instead of the princess. After all, according to the rules, Kate had to make a remark to the boy.

6. Avoiding heavy makeup and dark nails

The makeup and nail color of royalty should be neutral. Nude and light pink shades are allowed in manicure. This explains why Kate Middleton never appears in public with a lot of makeup and paints her nails in two colors (Soft Pink 28 Rose Lounge (Bourjois) and 423 Allure (Essie)).

7. The princess cannot wear fur

The royal family is strongly opposed to animal cruelty. Therefore, they are forbidden to wear clothes with natural fur. For ethical reasons, Kate willingly agrees with this rule. Even if she wears outerwear decorated with fur, be sure that it is artificial.
