"Disgusting": what scenes about Elizabeth II and Princess Diana from the Crown series outraged the royal family
The second part of the sixth season of The Crown about the British royal family will premiere on December 14, focusing on the death of Princess Diana in 1997. Even though there are many witnesses to those tragic events, the writers failed to please the relatives of the main characters and to accurately recreate the past on the screen.
Hugo Vickers, a historian and friend of the royal family, said that some scenes have upset the Windsors. The relatives of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Diana seem to be dissatisfied with the work of the screenwriters, according to the Page Six article.
The Crown series was condemned for inaccuracies in events related to the royal family, the portrayal of Queen Elizabeth in her last years in particular.
"They are digging into the souls of real people. It's disgusting. This queen looks so boring and not like her at all. The Queen always kept a twinkle in her eye and a sense of humor even in the most difficult times. She was not hunched over like this woman on TV," Hugo Vickers said.
There were also gross errors in the description of Princess Diana's last day. A family friend is surprised that the creators of the series did not investigate the facts that were repeated many times to the media and during the investigation.
"The Crown was accused of speculation. For example, in the series, Princess Diana insists on leaving the Ritz Carlton Hotel and going to Dodi Fayed's Paris apartment, but in reality, the initiative belonged to him."
The scene where Lady Di does not agree to her boyfriend's proposal is not accurate as well.
"There was never any question of her marrying Dodi," Vickers assured. According to friends of Princess Diana, in the last days of her life, she sarcastically said, "I want another marriage like a bad rash."
According to Lady Di's inner circle, the portrayal of Diana's last call to her sons is overly dramatic. Prince Harry, who once said that he watched the series to "check the facts," said that the conversation was actually short because the princes were playing with their cousins.
The royal family is outraged not only by inaccurate scenes but also by distorted images of the characters.
"She (Princess Diana - ed.) is depicted as expressive and as serious as she certainly was not at the time. She fell into chaos in a terribly unstable way," Hugo Vickers said.
