Beauty expert named ingredients in skincare products that should never be mixed: it's dangerous for the skin
Skincare expert Manuela Marcheggiani revealed the ingredients that should never be mixed. She explained why these ingredients can damage your skin if used at the same time.
The expert shared her recommendations on her TikTok page. Marcheggiani explained why it is a big mistake to mix salicylic acid and retinoids during the same procedure and how to use them instead.
"Things that should not be combined are 2% salicylic acid and retinoids," the video says. This is because these ingredients actually perform the same function, which is to renew cells and help exfoliate the skin.
Marcheggiani said that using them together increases the likelihood of skin irritation. "When you combine them, you increase the likelihood that your skin will become dry and irritated, so the risk of inflammation increases."
According to the Cleveland Clinic, salicylic acid is a topical medication that prevents acne and rashes. Retinoids work in a similar way to get rid of dead cells and clear pores
If you need to use both ingredients on your skin, it's best to use one in the morning and the other in the evening. "I use salicylic acid in the morning," Marcheggiani says. "So although these two products are great for oily, problematic skin, their combination is too strong for the one with acne and enlarged pores," she added.
