A Sarmat nuclear missile could have been deployed: what is known about the military facility in the Tver region where explosions occurred in the morning
As a result of a UAV attack on the Tver region of the Russian Federation, a secret facility in the village of Oktyabrsky was hit. According to rumors circulating among the local population, missile silos are located there, and a Sarmat missile, also known as Satan, is on alert. Local residents are rushing to evacuate, fearing that their villages will be reduced to rubble in the event of a detonation.
This was reported by the Russian Telegram channel "VchK-OGPU", citing eyewitness accounts. "In the Tver region, near Toropets, people are driving away from the facility attacked at night just in case," the publication says.
According to the channel, UAVs hit a secret facility in Oktyabrske, near Toropets.
"The missiles that may be stored there, when detonated, will wipe out tens of kilometers in the area," the channel writes.
Thus, according to locals, it is a military unit of the missile troops in Oktyabrske near the ancient village of Stara Toropa, which is popularly called "Kapai" or "Kopai."
"The part is surrounded by a fence, it is secret. It is located between Toropets and Stara Toropa, where residents were evacuated when a warehouse was destroyed in Toropets. Nearby there is a field where they regularly blow up something, and recently they burned gunpowder, and several soldiers were injured," said one of the interlocutors of the VchK-OGPU.
According to him, Kapay is not about shells, like the warehouse that was blown up in Toropets.
Those who have been there say that the mines are missile silos with airlocks like in a bunker.
"In May of this year, a drone crashed there, and the military said that if it had exploded, everything would have been demolished for 30 kilometers around. They say there's a Satan missile on alert there," said a local resident.
In addition, he says, there is a "torn-up railroad" that runs through the military unit, which is not on the map.
Russian and North Korean missiles are rumored to have been "chased to and from the warehouse" along it.
The channel also notes that there are groups of colleagues from the unit in Oktyabrske on social media, where former military personnel of the secret facility congratulate each other on the holiday of the missile forces and even post photos with railroad cars with missiles.
What is known about the Sarmat missile
"The Sarmat (RS-28, NATO classification Satan-2, hence the second name Satan) is a fifth-generation Russian silo-based strategic missile system with a heavy multi-stage liquid-fueled intercontinental ballistic missile.
On April 20, 2022, the first test launch of the Sarmat missile took place. On September 1, 2023, the system was put on combat duty by the aggressor country. Serial production is carried out at the Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant.
It is equipped with massive missile defense capabilities due to the mine's CAS, suborbital trajectory, a larger decoy payload than conventional ICBMs, and high-precision hypersonic maneuvering warheads.
"The Sarmat uses an upgraded version of the Russian RD-264 engine already tested for the R-36M, so the tests of the propulsion system were completed relatively quickly and successfully.
The missile incorporates the technology of "orbital bombing" with the potential to strike the United States through the South Pole, bypassing missile defense.
At the same time, according to Military Balance experts, Sarmat is not capable of changing the rules of the game and will not ensure Moscow's successful immediate counter-offensive nuclear strike.
As reported by OBOZ.UA, Russian media said that in Oktyabrske, UAVs attacked the 23rd military arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of the Russian Defense Ministry, explosions occurred at 4 am, after which detonation began.
The damaged depot is located 16 kilometers south of the 107th arsenal destroyed a few days ago in the Toropets area. A fire had been burning there for at least two days after the explosions at the ammunition depot on the night of September 18.
It later became known that the attack on Toropets was carried out by the SBU and the Defense Forces. The destroyed warehouse contained Iskander and Tochka-U missiles, KABs, and artillery shells.
