The details of the tragedy that occurred in the capital's funicular on Sunday, April 7, where a minor boy died, have become known. According to the teenager's friends, a man in a military uniform started harassing them and then pushed the victim in the back, causing him to break a window glass on the platform, and a fragment hit his carotid artery.

OBOZ.UA learned about this from its sources. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years in prison.

Thus, on Sunday, April 7, in the evening, it was reported that a tragedy had occurred in the capital's funicular. It was reported that an unknown man pushed a minor boy during a conflict, who fell and broke the glass. One of the fragments hit the teenager in the throat and he died at the scene.

From our sources, we learned that the person involved in the tragedy is 29-year-old Artem Kosovyi, who works as a driver for the State Protection Department of Ukraine.

It was previously established that in the car of the funicular, a conflict arose between a law enforcement officer, who was in a state of intoxication, and a teenager on the topic of military service. After they got to the platform of the upper station, the adult man attacked the boy and pushed him down the stairs. However, the parole officer lost his balance and fell on the minor, who smashed his head against the window glass during the fall, and the fragments cut the child's neck.

"After that, the boy climbed the stairs on his own, but then fell and died before the paramedics arrived," our source added.

Later, the "Chaika" Sports Club posted on its Instagram page that the deceased was their student.

"In the evening, Maksym was walking with his friends on Poshtova Square, on the funicular. At some point, a man in a military uniform without insignia did not like the 16-year-olds having fun and decided to show his military patriotism. He approached them in a drunken state with the words: "Are you ready to pay your debt to your homeland?". Maksym confidently answered that he was ready," the statement reads.

The sports club added that the man pushed the teenager in the back, after which the boy hit his head on the glass, broke it, and one of the fragments hit his carotid artery. After that, Maxim walked a few steps and fell on the stairs of the upper lobby of the funicular.

According to the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation, criminal proceedings have been opened over the teenager's death – the attacker was a law enforcement officer.

"On April 7, a conflict arose at the station of the capital's funicular between a man who serves as a driver in the State Protection Department and a minor. After getting out of the car at the upper station, the law enforcement officer pushed the teenager. He fell, smashed his head against the glass, and received a fatal cut to his neck. The minor died at the scene. The detainee has already been suspended from duty. His command provides full assistance in conducting urgent investigative actions," the SBI reported.

The issue of serving a notice of suspicion to the detained law enforcement officer on suspicion of premeditated murder is being decided. He faces up to 15 years in prison.

In addition, the Department of State Protection of Ukraine, whose employee is the detainee, commented on the tragedy. According to them, an internal official investigation has been ordered into the incident.

"For the duration of the investigation, the serviceman has been suspended from duty and taken into custody. The State Protection Department of Ukraine is already providing all necessary assistance to law enforcement agencies and will assist in the pre-trial investigation in every possible way. We offer our condolences to the family of the deceased," the press service added.

We have learned from our own sources that the person involved in the tragedy was a 29-year-old law enforcement officer who worked as a driver.
