In Thailand, near a popular resort, caught a crocodile with a length of 2.4 meters. And although it is not a very large reptile, still experts wonder how the marine predator ended up in a freshwater pond.
The crocodile has kept locals in Phuket's Thalang district in fear since July 31, when it was spotted in a large bet in Ban Para village. In fact, until now, such animals had never been seen here, The Nation wrote.
The 2.44-meter-long reptile was seized from a rural pond by a team from the Phuket Fisheries Authority and an expert from the Panya Farm Crocodile Capture Training Center. They said the animal, which turned out to be a female, is about seven years old and weighs about 70 kilograms.
Phuket Chief Fisheries Officer Prayuth Ratanawan said the crocodile will be kept at the Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Center for some time until its owner turns up. And if no one claims ownership, the reptile will be seized by the Fisheries Department.
Although there have been no recent reports of crocodiles attacking or killing humans in Thailand, Thais have always feared the reptiles and demanded their destruction if seen in natural water resources.
According to the researchers, in Thailand, fear of crocodiles has led to their eradication from natural environments. However, there must be a balance in nature. Now there are no predators in Thailand to control the influx of alien fish such as tilapia.
