5 foundation mistakes that make you look older

Life hacks for makeup

Foundation is one of the most popular makeup products, the basis of daily care. It masks redness, conceals imperfections, and can generally create a more even and radiant skin tone.

However, it's worth noting that not all foundations are the same, and some of them take on a pronounced orange tint on the skin. It often happens that the cream gets clogged in bumps and wrinkles, which, of course, significantly adds age. Experts told us what makeup mistakes to avoid.

Applying foundation on dehydrated skin

A multi-step skincare routine is the foundation of quality makeup. However, the morning is not the time of day when you have time to cleanse your face with a cleansing gel, apply a protective cream, moisturizer, toner, etc. Experts warn: do not ignore the stage of high-quality morning skin moisturizing.

"Good moisturizing is the key to a youthful, radiant complexion," emphasized Jamie Coombs, Dior makeup artist.

Morning care should include at least a good toner and a moisturizing protective cream. At the same time, try not to do excessive massage, as this can stimulate the sebaceous glands, forming excess oil.

Ignoring the primer

Although not all skin types need primers, they can be helpful when it comes to the quality of foundation application.

Using a good quality primer will help reduce redness, blur imperfections, and prepare your skin for foundation.

Too thick foundation

Malin Coleman, makeup artist at Max Factor, says that too thick a foundation adds age.

"People think that because they're older, they need to use a thicker foundation to cover up wrinkles, but in fact, it's because of this that the irregularities on the skin are more visible," Coleman explained.

Makeup artists recommend choosing a more saturated pigment rather than a thick texture. You can also add a light, sheer foundation to your daily routine that can be applied to areas that need extra coverage.

Tanning effect

Foundation should be in perfect harmony with your complexion. Many people have sometimes succumbed to the impulse to buy a darker foundation, believing that it will give an attractive tan.

While this is a big mistake at any age, it can be especially inappropriate on mature skin. If you want to add a light tanning effect, use blush and bronzer.

Excessive powdering of the face

Another common mistake is overdoing it with powder. Several layers of powder on top of the foundation creates the exact opposite effect – the face becomes dull and the pores become clogged. Powder is useful for setting makeup and matting the skin, but it should be applied in very thin layers, not rubbed on. Look for ultra-fine formulas that disappear into the skin.

Makeup artists advise a life hack – tap the powder brush on your hand before applying it to your face - this will remove excess product and ensure that you use only a small amount.
