The majority of Russians are convinced that their country is moving in the right direction, with the level of sympathy for Stalin breaking a record: figures have been announced

More than half of the residents of the Russian Federation (62%) believe that their country is "moving in the right direction". At the same time, 54% of respondents agree with the statement that Joseph Stalin "was a great leader".

The corresponding results were shown by a survey of the Russian Levada Center (it is recognized as a "foreign agent"). The poll on the assessment of the general situation in the Russian Federation was conducted from August 24 to August 30. The poll on the attitude of Russians to Stalin was conducted from July 20 to 26, 2023.

Sociologists said that the share of respondents who believe that things in the Russian Federation are going in the right direction has slightly decreased. In the new survey, 62% of respondents held such an opinion, while in July there were 66% of such respondents.

The share of those who hold the opinion that the country is going in the wrong direction remained virtually unchanged (24% vs. 23% in July), as did the number of those who found it difficult to answer the question (13% vs. 12% in July).

About half of the respondents regard Stalin with respect, while about a quarter are indifferent towards him. More than half of respondents agree with the judgment that he "was a great leader."

If 44% of Russians treated Stalin "with respect" in May 2023, the new survey now showed 47%. 23% have an indifferent attitude (in May 2021 it was 27%) and another 16% have sympathy or admiration (in May 2021 it was 15%). 8% have negative emotions (11% in May 2021).

The share of those who agree that Stalin is a "great leader" in one way or another has also remained virtually unchanged since 2021: 54% of respondents think so (in May 2021 it was 56%). The share of those who disagree with this judgment amounted to 12% (in May 2021 it was 14%).
