British intelligence explained the consequences of the breakthrough into Russia's Belgorod Oblast

The May 22 breakthrough into Russian Belgorod Oblast by units of the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Russian Freedom Legion was not the only such "special operation" in the past few days. Between last Friday and what happened on Monday, Russian security forces clashed with guerrillas in at least three locations near the border with Ukraine.

All of them, though, took place just within the Belgorod region. This was pointed out by British military intelligence, analyzing the implications of yesterday's DRG breach into Russian territory.

"Between May 19 and 22, 2023, Russian security forces probably clashed with guerrillas in at least three locations in the Belgorod region of Russia, near the Ukrainian border. The identity of the guerrillas remains unconfirmed, but Russian anti-regime groups have claimed responsibility," experts explained.

They focused on the events, which the network dubbed "the liberation of the Belgorod People's Republic." British intelligence called the incident near the town of Grayvoron the most serious in this breakthrough.

"There was an increase in the number of drone or indirect fire attacks in the vicinity of the incident sites amid small arms fire. Russia evacuated several villages and deployed additional security forces to the area," the report said.

British intelligence said the aggressor country of Russia is facing a growing multifaceted security threat in its border areas, losses of combat aircraft, improvised explosive device attacks on railroad tracks and now also direct guerrilla activity.

At the same time, experts are convinced that the terrorist state, which has been waging a bloody war against Ukraine for 1.3 years, is almost certainly using all these incidents to support the official version that it is allegedly a "victim of war."

According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the operation in the Belgorod region was a blow to Russians: Russia's top leadership traditionally blamed Ukraine for everything, while citizens of the aggressor country reacted with panic, factionalism, and incoherence amid yet another information shock.

As OBOZREVATEL reported, on May 23, the governor of Belgorod Region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, stated that the "mopping up of the territory" from Subversive and reconnaissance groups allegedly continued. He admitted that the local residents should not return home for the time being.

Against the backdrop of this "mopping-up" in another Russian region - the Bryansk region - a new "bavovna" took place. Photos of black smoke rising over a residential area were published online, and there were also reports of a general gathering of law enforcers.
