How to grow dill on a windowsill: tips that will speed up the process
In winter, housewives want to have fresh herbs on hand to add flavor and aroma to delicious dishes. Lush, fragrant and beautiful dill is not always available in the store, but you can grow it at home yourself.
OBOZ.UA has found effective tips to help you do it. It takes from a month and a half to two months for seeds to germinate, but you can speed up this process by properly preparing the crop.
Seeds
Pour the seeds into any deep container and cover with water at room temperature. Leave it for one to two days, changing the water every 12 hours. Throw away the seeds that float up, remove the rest with a strainer and dry them well.
Pot
Choose pots or special containers with good drainage so that the water does not stagnate and the roots do not start to rot. Next, fill the container with a loose potting mix that you can buy at the store. It contains nutrients that will give the plant the strength to grow and develop abundantly.
Planting
Before sowing the seeds, moisten the soil with water at room temperature, preferably settled. Make small holes no more than 1.5 centimeters deep. Put a seed in each and cover it with soil.
Then spray the soil on top with a spray bottle and cover everything with foil. Place the pot in a dark place for 5-7 days. As soon as the first sprouts begin to appear, move the dill to the windowsill and remove the film to provide the plant with sunlight.
Fertilizing
To make a nutritious fertilizer yourself, you will need ammonia, which contains enough nitrogen for the plant to grow lushly. Dissolve one teaspoon of the liquid in one liter of water, mix everything thoroughly, and spray the dill.
A week later, you can fertilize the soil with the ash solution. Add one teaspoon of ammonia and half a cup of ash to five liters of water. Mix everything and strain through a sieve. Water the dill and repeat the procedure after 10 days.
