How to grow a rose on a windowsill: simple life hacks for a capricious flower
Roses have gained a reputation for being very capricious and whimsical flowers. And while it is still possible to cope with growing in the garden, many people consider planting at home on the windowsill or on the balcony to be a futile labor.
In fact, everything is not as difficult as it may seem. How to grow a beautiful and fragrant flower in a pot - read the article on OBOZ.UA.
Adaptation period and pest treatment
The first step is to carefully examine the plant and cut off any broken, damaged or dry shoots. If you have a lot of greenery in your room, you need to isolate the rose for a while. The rose pot should be kept separate from other plants for several weeks. Firstly, the flower may be infected with pests, and secondly, it is better to give the rose a certain period of time to adapt to new conditions.
For prevention, it is better to treat the rose from pests. It is often attacked by aphids and thrips, and insecticidal preparations will always help you fight them.
Transplantation
If the adaptation period has successfully passed, but the rose has not developed buds, you can try transplanting it into another pot.
It is important to observe the following conditions:
- it is better to choose a substrate for roses in a specialized store - the soil should be nutritious;
- the container should have good drainage so that there is no risk of waterlogging after watering;
- the soil acidity should be neutral;
- the pot should be spacious enough for the root system to develop.
Which window sill to choose
Roses need a lot of natural light, but too much sunlight, especially in the warm seasons, can injure the plant. It is better to choose a window sill on the southeast side.
The optimal temperature
According to experts, the optimum temperature for roses is from +14 °C to +25 °C, and in October-February, when it goes into a dormant period, the plant feels comfortable at lower temperatures: from +5 °C to +8 °C.
Watering regime and the need for pruning
Roses are very picky about watering. Plants grow well in moist soil, but excess water should not stagnate in the pot.
In further care, special attention should be paid to the pruning process: it can be preventive and formative. High-quality pruning promotes rejuvenation and promotes better flowering.
