Court rejects another appeal of Bohuslayev: how long will the former Motor Sich exec stay in jail

On Tuesday, September 26, the court rejected another appeal by the defense of Vyacheslav Bohuslayev, the former president of Motor Sich, who is suspected of collaboration. The decision of the first instance was upheld, and Boguslaev was remanded in custody.

This was reported by Suspilne from the courtroom. It is noted that Bohuslayev will remain in custody until October 22.

During the hearing, Bohuslayev's lawyers argued that most of the risks that the prosecution had indicated in the previous motion had disappeared, as the pre-trial investigation was completed on September 22.

As a reminder, the prosecution requested an extension of the arrest based on the following circumstances:

• Bohuslayev may try to escape or leave the country; he has Russian citizenship;
• there is a risk of influencing witnesses and a number of enterprises, including those related to the production of helicopters;
• there is also a risk of destruction or distortion of certain material evidence.

On May 19, 2023, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv extended the preventive measure against former Motor Sich CEO Vyacheslav Bohuslayev.

On June 19, the Kyiv Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of Bohuslayev's defense and left him in custody.

On July 16, the Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv extended his detention without bail until September 9.

As reported by OBOZREVATEL:

- Bohuslayev and the head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department of Motor Sich JSC were detained on October 22, 2022. Bohuslayev is currently in a pre-trial detention center and denies all charges.

- In March, the former director of Motor Sich JSC wrote a letter to the Office of the President of Ukraine asking to be added to the list for exchange with Russia.

- The head of the SBU, Vasyl Malyuk, said that Bohuslayev could be exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war, but only after he testifies. Bohuslayev is 84 years old, so he could spend the rest of his life in prison.

- Bohuslayev has hidden real estate in Moscow. We are talking about at least two properties. The former Motor Sich president also had a Russian passport issued in 2000.

- In addition, they found a company in Russia that has sold almost 2 million worth of spare parts since the invasion. According to the investigation, on the eve of the full-scale Russian invasion, Bohuslayev ordered the dismantling of helicopter blades so that the Ukrainian military could not fly them. He also initiated the concealment of documents for aircraft equipment.

- Bohuslayev's family was found to have real estate on the French Riviera.
