It's easy to make fertilizer for apricots at home

Apricots are one of the best fruit trees that you can have on your property. They grow quickly, are resistant to external conditions, and the first juicy fruits ripen quite early - in June.

But the tree has one annoying drawback. It can suddenly stop flowering and not produce a crop after that. OBOZREVATEL found out how to deal with this problem and what kind of fertilization will help preserve the apricot blossom and give it a good harvest.

Why apricot may stop bearing fruit

When planting young apricots, it is important to choose the right place for them. What can prevent them from blooming?

  • stagnant water in the ground;
  • location in the shade;
  • heavy clay soil.

If the conditions for the apricot tree are chosen correctly, but it still does not bloom or bear fruit, you should check yourself for mistakes in growing the tree. These include:

  • excessive watering;
  • untimely pruning;
  • insufficient fertilization.

Excessive water can cause the apricot to drop flowers. Also, the presence of extra branches that limit the sun's access to the crown, as well as depleted soil. The latter is especially bad for mature trees. If your adult apricot has stopped producing, prepare a fertilizer for it with your own hands that will restore its ability to bear fruit.

How to make fertilizer for apricots

Home-made fertilizer is applied during the flowering period when the tree needs additional nutrition the most. To make the product, you will need:

  • urea, aka urea - 4 tablespoons;
  • potassium sulfate - 4 tablespoons;
  • water - 20 liters.

Urea and potassium sulfate must be properly diluted in 20 liters of water. This solution is used to water the soil around the apricot tree. The amount of fertilizer is calculated for one adult apricot. The effect of such fertilization should appear in a few days - the tree should produce more abundant flowers.

The plant should be fertilized in three stages and with the help of watering. The first is as soon as the apricot begins to bloom. The second time fertilizer is applied two weeks after the first procedure. And the third watering with fertilizers is planned in about a month when the ovary appears on the tree and begins to ripen.

How else to care for apricots for a better harvest

In addition to mineral fertilizers, it is good to fertilize the tree with organic matter. Humus, manure, or compost will do the job well. And it will also make young seedlings more resistant to the vagaries of the weather.

It is also good to keep the root system of the tree under control. Once a year, you can remove some of the roots with an ax. But this can only be done on one side, so as not to harm the apricot.

When you have harvested the entire apricot crop, fertilize the tree with phosphorus-potassium fertilizer. Organics are not suitable at this stage.
