Is decaf coffee good for you: an expert explains
Coffee ranks third among the world's favorite beverages. It is second only to tea and water in popularity. For many people, drinking a cup of coffee is an unchanging morning ritual. Also, few people will refuse a cup of hot cappuccino or latte in a coffee shop while meeting with friends or business partners.
In general, coffee has many beneficial properties. For example, it has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It also helps fight drowsiness. However, drinking coffee in the afternoon can cause insomnia. Therefore, many experts recommend avoiding this drink in the afternoon or replacing it with decaf. But is decaf really that good for you? Oksana Skitalinska, a nutritionist, answered this question on Instagram.
According to her, there is practically no decaffeinated coffee in the world. Typically, such varieties contain 1.5-2% caffeine. The only coffee that is completely decaffeinated is called Coffea charrieriana. However, it is not very common because of the rarity of this plant.
The benefits of drinking decaffeinated coffee are controversial in the scientific world. There are several reasons for this. First, many manufacturers prefer a chemical process to remove caffeine. As a result, coffee beans lose almost all of their caffeine, but are saturated with various chemicals that are not needed by the body. Secondly, decaffeinated coffee has no benefits. A cup of such coffee will not invigorate a person, but will only preserve the traditions of the morning ritual.
