A unique event took place in the Austrian capital with the participation of the controversial conductor Oksana Lyniv. As part of the Wiener Festwochen and Wiener Konzerthau music festivals, the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra and the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, together with the National Choir Dumka, took the stage on June 2.

This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine. In total, 150 Ukrainians gathered in Vienna and impressed the audience with their performance. The Ukrainian program was presented at one of the most famous events in the world of classical music. The audience especially remembered the performance of Yevhen Stankovych's Babyn Yar by the Kadysh-Rekvii.

"One of the most striking moments is the Dies Irae, or "Judgment Day," when the entire choir chants, asking when our executioners will finally be brought to justice and when they will have to answer for this massacre," Lyniv said. In addition, the piece "Fugue of Death" based on the poem of the same name by Paul Celan about the extermination of Jews by the Nazis was performed on stage. This composition is a reflection on current events in Ukraine, drawing a parallel with the genocide of the Ukrainian people by Russia.

Oksana Lyniv is known among Ukrainians for her ambiguous reputation, because despite the fact that the conductor glorifies national culture, she does not refuse to perform works by Russian composers.

In particular, in 2025, the celebrity plans to stage Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin in the German city of Dresden. The artist explained her decision not to cancel the performance by saying that Europe does not deny Russian as much as Ukraine does.

In an interview, Lyniv called it freedom of art and freedom of speech. In addition, the conductor believes that the world needs to know about Tchaikovsky's Ukrainian roots.
