"Was amazed": Bohdan Beniuk tells how Ukrainians surprised 73-year-old US playwright Richard Nelson

Bohdan Beniuk told how Ukrainians surprised 73-year-old US playwright Richard Nelson.

Bohdan Beniuk, an actor and director of the Podil Theater, recalled how the US playwright Richard Nelson staged his play Tuskul Conversations in the capital's theater and how he was surprised by Ukrainians. He lived in Ukraine for two months in the spring, so he gathered enough impressions to take back to his homeland.

While working with the team of actors at the Podil Theater, he gained invaluable life experience. Bohdan Beniuk spoke about his impressions of the American star in the program "ZhVL".

Richard Nelson, 73, was shocked to learn that Ukrainian theaters not only continue to work during the war, but also bring in full houses for performances.

"The director Richard Nelson, who came to our theater in Podil to stage a play, watched the conditions in which we rehearse, and in the evening, full houses come to the theater. And he was so impressed with Kyiv, Ukraine, and the fact that he lived here for two months. He said: "I got such a life experience that I would never have lived anywhere else for any money," Benyuk commented.

The actor also recalled how the playwright reacted to the air raids. "At first, he was hiding," says the celebrity. However, later he got used to the rhythm of Ukrainian life and "no longer paid attention to it and held rehearsals."

"You're all fatalists," Benyuk quotes Richard Nelson. This refers to people who rely on fate and do not try to change it. A vivid example of fatalism is the phrase "if it comes, it's my fate."

Earlier, Ukrinform reported that Richard Nelson traveled to Ukraine in the spring to stage a performance based on his own play Tuskul Conversations, which premiered on May 3 and 4. "According to Nelson, in the play he tried to show what people feel in life, it's about people trying to find an understanding of what to do next," the source writes.

"I call Richard Nelson a surgeon. Doctors from different countries come to us to help save the body, and Nelson came as a doctor who saves the soul. We will see this performance, where Mr. Richard achieves a certain result with the help of the psychological consent of the audience's eyes," Bohdan Beniuk commented earlier.

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that Bohdan Benyuk reported that Ukrainian actor Andriy Kavun had returned home to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Previously, the actor starred in Russian films.
