"Ukraine has become different - the nation is defined by war." The world's media have written enthusiastically about the new Bachelor, Oleksandr 'Teren' Budko
The new hero of the 13th season of The Bachelor, war veteran Oleksandr "Teren" Budko, has become popular for his participation in the project not only in Ukraine but also abroad. The Guardian and Variety have already written about him in a fascinating way.
It was the show's adaptation to the realities of war that caught the eye of foreigners. According to The Bachelor's Instagram post, they are predicting the biggest climax in the entire history of the franchise, which, by the way, has been adapted in 36 countries.
"Cult foreign publications write about and admire Oleksandr 'Teren'. The articles mention his incredible strength of spirit and predict that the new season of The Bachelor will be the culmination of the entire franchise," the project representatives point out.
The reviews of the show in these two media can be parsed into quotes. Journalists write about Oleksandr 'Teren' as if he is going to attract British or American contestants to the Ukrainian 'Bachelor'. But in fact, this has never been done in the franchise before, which is why Season 13 has attracted the world's attention.
"Having someone as inspirational as Oleksandr as the bachelor this season is incredibly exciting. We have no doubt that he will be extremely popular not only with the contestants, but also with the audience," Andrew Zane, Senior Vice President, Creative, Format Development and Sales, Warner Bros. International Television Production, senior vice president, creative, format development and sales.
"Ukraine has become a radically different country. The nation is now defined by war. The new season of The Bachelor decided to reflect this by introducing the warrior Oleksandr 'Teren' as the main character of the project. Budko has become a kind of war figure. In February 2022, he volunteered to defend his country from the Russian invasion and was promoted to platoon commander in six months. But during the Battle of Kharkiv, he lost both his legs when a shell exploded near him. This incident alone would have been impressive enough, but Budko's achievements since then have been even more impressive," Stuart Garrity of The Guardian introduced the Ukrainian veteran to the British audience.
In particular, the journalist added that he would not mind if the entire franchise closed after the upcoming season with Teren, because, in his opinion, there is nothing better than an episode with Oleksandr Budko.
"In the future, when we can look back on the long and strange history of television in the first quarter of the 21st century, there's a good chance we'll see the season of The Bachelor with Buddy as the pinnacle of the entire franchise. Perhaps the best thing would be for The Bachelor to shut down completely after this season," he commented.
Interestingly, Teren also doesn't mind the show ending its existence after season 13. He said this in an interview with Emma Antoniuk in No One Will Watch This. Allegedly, after all the scandals, gossip, and sexism, the finale would be optimistic and democratic.
"Maybe I would have agreed [to close the show]. Not because I want no one to be anywhere after me. This is actually what we were talking about: a sexist show, a wrong show, and so on. Because there are so many good things, good narratives that can be shown through it now. And what else can we show when we have already reached the point where a veteran, a person with a disability, a non-sexist, Ukrainian is in this show? Who is next? So, yes, this will probably be the last season, the 13th," said Oleksandr Budko.
