Russians were put in their place at the Golden Globe 2025 awards
At the Golden Globe 2025 awards ceremony on the night of January 6, Russia suffered a sudden blow to its cinematic ego. Actor Yuri Borisov, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actor, did not receive the coveted statuette, losing to American actor Kieran Culkin for his role in the tragicomedy A Real Pain.
For a long time, Russians actively promoted Borisov and the movie Anora, in which he starred, as the main contenders for the award. However, the gala evening brought disappointment for them - the victory went to someone else. After the results of the film award were announced, Russians were in hysterics.
"While we were sleeping, Yura Borisov was swept away at the Golden Globes. The award for Best Supporting Actor went to Kieran Culkin. For the second year in a row, by the way. Kalkin went on stage in a very high spirits," Russians say in Telegram publics.
However, they still hope to get at least some recognition in the international arena, so they have already set their sights on the Oscars. "We are waiting for the Oscars. Maybe we'll have better luck there," they wrote.
On social network X, Russians also expressed their despair. They were hysterical:
- "It was supposed to be Yura Borisov."
- "Yura Borisov did not win."
- "I cried because Yura Borisov did not take the globe."
- "Yura Borisov is my love, my star anyway. I adore him!"
- "Go cry, Yura Borisov was left without an award."
- "Yura is not sad! I breathed out a sigh of relief. "It's okay, I'll take English and next year I'll definitely get the award and go on stage," Borisov thought to himself."
It is known that the Best Supporting Actor nomination was contested:
- Denzel Washington, "Gladiator 2"
- Kieran Culkin, "A Real Pain"
- Guy Pearce, "The Brutalist"
- Jeremy Strong, "The Apprentice"
- Yura Borisov, "Anora"
- Edward Norton, "A Complete Unknown"
