Melania Trump has been "cancelled" by fashion brands: why American fashion designers do not want to dress the first lady of the United States

Melania Trump has been "cancelled" by fashion brands

Future US First Lady Melania Trump has been blacklisted by many American clothing brands. They refuse to dress the public figure in their own images, and this became especially noticeable before Donald Trump's inauguration.

Usually, when the clothes of certain brands are worn by first ladies, they are almost immediately recognized as prestigious, but not in the case of Melania Trump. That is why, according to The Mirror, she turned to European fashion houses for help.

According to a source, Women's Wear Daily wrote to 16 American fashion designers about working with Melania Trump. Among them were: Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung, Rachel Scott, Diotima, Henry Zankov, Zankov, Sergio Hudson, Gilles Mendel, House of Gilles, Chloe, as well as Tanner Fletcher, Tanner Richie and Fletcher Kassel. No response was received from any of the magazines.

Back during Donald Trump's first election to the US presidency, fashion designers Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Zac Posen and Tom Ford publicly refused to dress Melania Trump. This time, nothing is likely to change.

At the same time, the future first lady of the United States often wears clothes by European brands such as Dior. She also often appears in clothes by French designer Hervé Pierre. He created a white dress with off-the-shoulder and a thigh-high slit for her for the inaugural ball. After that, Pierre became Melania Trump's chief stylist.

He said that he very rarely works directly with designers because of the designers' political views.

"I don't do it because the fashion industry is not very friendly to Trump. It's not a secret. Some people are very open and could do something special. But many people are not," he said.

Interestingly, from time to time, the public figure still chooses outfits from American designers. For example, at Donald Trump's first inauguration in 2017, she wore a cashmere dress by Ralph Lauren.
