"It has nothing to do with a beauty contest". The 39-year-old Miss Germany 2024, who is from Iran, has sparked a discussion online

A scandal erupted online over the 39-year-old architect Apameh Schönauer, who won the Miss Germany 2024 pageant. The fact is that this year, the organizers abolished the age limit - previously, participants had to be under 39 years old, so now the oldest of them was 42-year-old Mignon Kovollik.

On Saturday evening, February 24, the jury of the German competition announced the winner out of ten finalists who claimed to represent the country at the global level. This was reported on Instagram and the Miss Germany website. Since Schönauer is from Iran, her main mission is to help migrants integrate into society, which seems to have been a big hit with the judges.

Because of the woman's background, age, and appearance, the pageant's supporters were seriously outraged. They called her ugly and predicted that she would finish last at Miss World. "There are 5-10 more beautiful women living on my street," "I hope the next Miss Germany will be won by a black man," "You have every right to do so, but you should give the contest a different name. You don't want to have anything to do with the beauty ideals of that time anymore," and similar offensive statements were written by the show's fans.

However, some Internet users also spoke out in her defense: "I was confused at first, too, and then again. Being "Miss..." means more than looks. She sounds very nice in German, she is cheerful, grateful", "Congratulations... You are a great example of how to succeed with diligence and hard work. Your origin should be secondary."

Many Germans were upset by the fact that young 18-year-old girls with no experience had to compete with women over 39 who already knew exactly how the world works and had families and children.

What is known about Miss Germany 2024:

• At the age of 6, Apameh Schönauer moved from Iran to Germany as an immigrant. The first years of living in a foreign country were difficult for her because of her attempts to "fit in" with society and not to forget about herself as a person.
• Because of her experience, she decided to work with migrant women, who number more than 11 million in Germany. Schönauer plans to encourage young women to fight for their rights and self-actualization, which she was able to do herself.
• She currently works as an architect and has two children.
