Harvey Weinstein diagnosed with cancer: what is known about the condition of the producer serving a sentence for rape

Harvey Weinstein has been diagnosed with cancer

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, 72, who is serving a prison sentence for sexual assault, has been diagnosed with cancer. He was diagnosed with myeloid leukemia, which affects the human hematopoietic system.

Despite his fatal illness, the producer will remain behind bars for treatment after being sentenced to 39 years in prison for rape. Weinstein's diagnosis was reported by NBC News, citing two personal sources.

The scandalous celebrity is already undergoing treatment for bone marrow cancer. He is currently in prison on Rikers Island, USA, the largest penal colony in the world.

The source notes that chronic myeloid leukemia (another name for the cancer the disgraced producer is fighting) is a rare form of bone marrow cancer. Weinstein's healthcare representative Craig Rothfeld said that he would not disclose details of the scandalous producer's illness: "Out of respect for Mr. Weinstein's privacy, we will not be providing any further comment."

In addition to his announced battle with cancer, the producer has recently suffered many health problems. In September, he had surgery for fluids in his lungs and heart. In July, Harvey Weinstein was hospitalized due to a positive test for covid and pneumonia.

The producer's serious health problems began after court cases and investigations began around his person. He was accused by Hollywood celebrities of harassment, rape, and sexual assault. This was confirmed by more than 80 women, including famous actresses, including Cara Delevingne, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lucia Evans, Eva Green, Angelina Jolie, and others.

After a lengthy investigation and trial, a jury in New York City found a Hollywood film producer guilty of sexual assault on February 24, 2020. The verdict was based on two counts: third-degree rape and first-degree sexual assault, or harassment. He was sentenced to 23 years in prison.

On February 23, 2023, a Los Angeles court sentenced the producer to another 16 years in prison in the 2013 rape case of an unnamed model and actress. In total, he will spend 39 years behind bars.
