Friends of Ukraine. Astronaut Scott Kelly and filmmaker Doug Liman visit Kyiv

Astronaut Scott Kelly and director Doug Liman arrived in Kyiv

American NASA astronaut and former F-14 fighter pilot Scott Kelly came to Ukraine as an ambassador of the presidential initiative UNITED24. He brought along Doug Liman, the director of the famous films The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, to accompany him.

The two men were photographed in front of the central Kyiv railway station, where almost all ambassadors take photos upon arrival. The photo was posted on the official UNITED24 Instagram page.

"Our ambassador, astronaut Scott Kelly, along with Doug Liman, director of The Bourne Identity and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, arrived on the morning train. Welcome to Ukraine," read the caption to the photo.

Scott Kelly became a UNITED24 ambassador in October 2022, but he has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Thus, on February 25, 2022, he posted a Ukrainian flag on Instagram and wrote a post of support.

"I stand with the people of Ukraine alongside my Russian friends, including former cosmonauts, who despise Putin's criminal actions as much as I do. Attacking a weaker neighbor is not strong leadership; it is cowardice based on fear and insecurity," the astronaut said.

Later, Kelly wrote that his nephews have roots in Ukraine - his father was born in Vinnytsia region, but moved to the United States with his entire family at the age of 10. Almost half of the astronaut's posts were about supporting our country.

In November 2022, Scott Kelly arrived in Ukraine on his own, announcing it with a post on social media. He visited children at the Okhmatdyt hospital in Kyiv and also visited Irpin, where he saw the consequences of Russian aggression.

The astronaut did not disclose the purpose of this year's trip, but it is likely to be related to health issues, as he is working on the Medical Aid project on his fundraising platform and raising funds for Class C ambulances.

Interestingly, last year Scott Kelly supported Ukraine by posting a photo of himself wearing an embroidered shirt. As he reported, it was commissioned by UNITED24 "as a reminder of the most memorable trips - to space and Ukraine."

Earlier, OBOZ.UA wrote that the actor of the Supernatural series Misha Collins arrived in Ukraine, and he marked his arrival with a photo taken against the background of broken Russian military equipment.
