"Dawson's Creek" star James Van Der Beek diagnosed with cancer: he is optimistic
James Van Der Beek, a 47-year-old actor best known for his role as Dawson Leery in the TV series "Dawson's Creek," has been diagnosed with cancer. He is battling colon cancer but is optimistic that he will overcome the disease.
The actor confirmed this information to People. He has been keeping his illness a secret for some time now and has been fighting it without going public. "Until now, I've been dealing with it privately, getting treatment and taking care of my health in general with more attention than ever before. I am in good condition and feel strong," he admitted on Instagram.
"I have colon cancer. I've been privately fighting this diagnosis and taking steps to address it with the support of my incredible family. There is reason for optimism and I feel good," the actor said.
Despite the diagnosis, James Van Der Beek does not suspend his career and continues to work actively. He recently starred in one of the episodes of the TV series Walker, and soon plans to play the main role in the series "Sidelined: The QB and Me." In June, he also vacationed in Egypt with his family and was incredibly happy with the vacation.
The actor will soon also take part in a TV show to draw attention to prostate, testicular, and colon cancer research. The event will be produced by actor Anthony Anderson.
"I was ashamed, I thought I was just doing Anthony Anderson a favor and supporting the fight against cancer. But when we got there and really started talking about these issues, everyone started to open up and we got to know each other on a different level," James Van Der Beek shared his impressions.
