Charles II and Camilla cut short public event on the Channel Islands due to security threat
King Charles III and Camilla were forced to cut short a public event on the Channel Islands due to a threat to their safety. Reportedly, the monarchs' security suspected a possible assassination attempt on the rulers, so they took them to a hotel to verify.
According to The Telegraph, it was a false alarm, so the king and queen returned to their public duties within 20 minutes.
The couple has already held several meetings during their two-day visit to the Channel Islands. The monarchs stayed at the Pomme d'Or Hotel, where they spent the tense 20 minutes.
Eyewitnesses told the media that the reason for the guards' alarm could have been a suspicious drone flying nearby. Most people did not even notice it, including the king and queen.
It was only when the guards approached the monarchs and quietly informed them of the possible threat that the mood around them changed, eyewitnesses said.
"He didn't look panicked, but he was quite stern. They just escorted him out. It's a pity because he stopped to talk to us on his own initiative," said the owner of a local sea salt shop.
A source close to the royal family confirmed, "There was a small cause for concern. The investigation showed in was a false alarm, all precautions were taken, and the program resumed shortly afterward."
