Xi Jinping arrives in the US to hold talks with Biden

On Wednesday, November 15, Chinese leader Xi Jinping arrived in San Francisco in the United States. The politician will meet with U.S. President Joe Biden and take part in the annual summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

This was reported by Reuters. It is noted that this is Xi's first visit to the United States in six years. He made the decision after the American leader announced his intention to restore decent relations with Beijing (to watch the video, scroll to the end of the news).

Xi and Biden will meet face-to-face for the first time since last year. U.S. officials call the talks an opportunity to reduce friction that many consider the world's most dangerous rivalry.

According to media reports, Xi arrived in San Francisco by plane, where he was met by US officials: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and US Ambassador to China Nicholas Burns. After that, the Chinese leader traveled by limousine to the city, where demonstrations are expected to take place that day, both for and against his visit.

Earlier, White House national security spokesman John Kirby told reporters that several topics would be on the agenda. In particular, Biden and Xi will discuss the conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, US efforts to support Ukraine in its fight against the Russian military, and economic issues.

He added that China could play a role in helping the United States support Ukraine, as well as in promoting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's vision of a just peace.

As reported by OBOZ.UA:

- Bloomberg reported that the key topic of talks between US President Joe Biden and Chinese leader Xi Jinping would be the restoration of military ties between the two countries. Washington is "determined" to restore these lines of communication as it believes that this is in the interests of US national security.

- Oleksandr Levchenko, Ukrainian diplomat, Ambassador of Ukraine to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2010-2017, shared his thoughts on the meeting between Joe Biden and Xi Jinping, as well as possible agreements between the United States and China. He noted that such meetings indicate a resumption of the exchange of views between Beijing and Washington, which is a very positive signal for the whole world.
