Beijing reacts to Putin's words on nuclear weapons

China has called on all countries possessing nuclear weapons to act prudently and maintain global strategic balance and stability. Beijing is convinced that there will be no winners in a nuclear war.

This was stated by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, Ukrinform reports. This is how the ministry reacted to the words of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about the possibility of using nuclear weapons.

"There will be no winners in a nuclear war, China calls on all parties to maintain restraint," Mao said.

She recalled that in January 2022, the leaders of the five nuclear-weapon states issued a joint statement that a nuclear war cannot be won and must not be started.

"China has always maintained that all states possessing nuclear weapons should adhere to the concept of common security, maintain global strategic balance and stability," the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson explained.

According to her, in the current situation, all parties should "work together" to reduce tensions and strategic risks.

"We call on all parties to maintain prudence and restraint and build a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture through dialogue and consultation," Mao said.

As OBOZ.UA previously reported, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin spoke about dialogue with the United States and once again threatened with nuclear weapons during his address to the Federal Assembly on February 29. This was probably done to draw the West's attention to his speech and to facilitate the Kremlin's ongoing information operations.

In response, the United States said it had repeatedly warned Russia about the consequences of using nuclear weapons. They called Putin's latest threats on this topic irresponsible.
