The leader of the Romanian Salvation Union opposition party, Elena Lasconi, has harshly criticized the government for its inaction regarding Russian drones that regularly violate the country's airspace. She called on President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu to give explanations for such incidents.

Lasconi was also outraged that Romanian law does not allow shooting down drones that violate the country's airspace. This was reported by EurActiv.

On the night of September 8, at least two Russian Shahed attack drones entered Romanian airspace, after which the Romanian authorities sent out a threat alert to residents of Tulcea and Constanta counties.

"It is absolutely outrageous to learn more from Ukrainians than from the Romanian authorities. In the spring, the army commander asked us to amend the legislation so that we could shoot down drones that invade our territory. Mr. Ciolacu, you control 60% of the parliament – are you going to do something about it? Does General Ciucă have anything to say, or is his boss Klaus Iohannis silencing him?" Lasconi said.

It is noteworthy that the reaction of the Romanian authorities to the violation of the country's airspace was to call for "respect for international law." In particular, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its "strong condemnation of these illegal attacks."

In his turn, Prime Minister Ciolacu, after the violation of his country's airspace by Russian drones, said that "there are no serious problems". He also warned his country's citizens that such incidents would continue because of the war near the border with Romania.

The authorities also claim that the current legislation does not allow them to shoot down drones that invade Romanian airspace. This statement was supported by the Romanian Chief of General Staff, General Georgica Vlad. He said that legislation should be changed to destroy Russian drones.

"At present, the Romanian army cannot conduct military operations in peacetime. A state of emergency, such as siege or martial law, should be declared," the Romanian general said.

As a reminder, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that a group of Shahed attack drones violated Romanian airspace during the Russian attack. The Romanian military raised its aircraft, but did not dare to shoot down the Russian drones: The UAVs returned to Ukrainian airspace.

Earlier it was reported that NATO condemned the drone attack of the aggressor country Russia on Ukraine, during which Russian Shahids flew into the territory of Romania. They called the actions of the occupiers "potentially dangerous."
