Putin tries to fill gaps in Kursk region with conscripts - FT

Russian conscripts surrender in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation

The aggressor country Russia is massively sending conscripts from almost all Russian regions to the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian Defense Forces are continuing their operation. In an attempt to deter the Ukrainian army's offensive, the Russian dictator has once again broken his promises - he has repeatedly claimed that conscripts will not be sent to war.

This is stated in the article of the Financial Times. A representative of the Russian public organization "Go to the forest", which helps Russians avoid mobilization and participation in the war against Ukraine, says that people are scared.

"People are terrified. We are overwhelmed with requests and can barely keep up. It started in some regions, but now it is clear that conscripts are being mobilized from all over Russia," Ivan Chuvilaev told FT.

According to him, in Russia, conscripts are forced to sign contracts and documents are forged to make it look like they have been serving for a long time. According to Russian law, conscripts can only be sent to a combat zone if they have served for more than 4 months and have special skills.

"But the law can be easily broken," the journalists wrote, adding that Putin has repeatedly stated that conscripts will not be sent to the combat zone.

The newspaper writes that Putin does not want to transfer significant resources to Kursk from different areas on the front in Ukraine. The dictator hopes to restrain the advance of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with conscripts.

"Putin hopes to restrain Ukraine's advance mainly with conscripts. But will they be able to push back Ukrainian troops? I doubt it," said Russian military analyst Yuriy Fedorov.

According to him, the various contingents that Russia has assembled in the Kursk region had no experience of joint operations and no time to learn. Also, according to Fedorov, even after the arrival of reinforcements last week, Russian forces in the region were much smaller than Ukrainians, although Russia has air support.

Pavlo Luzin, a freelance senior research fellow at the Center for European Policy Analysis, claims that Russia has 300,000 conscripts, who are perhaps the only significant reserve available to the Kremlin.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the Kursk operation by the Ukrainian Defense Forces was not only a complete surprise for the Kremlin, but also showed that it is impossible for it to control even its own border. And despite the fact that many Russian urgent workers have already been captured, new batches of them are now being forcibly sent from different parts of the Russian Federation to the border areas, with no regard for their own legislation.
